Inspiration: thecaretaker.bandcamp.com/album/everywhere-at-the-end-of-time

This album and the program/coding at its core were the final project for a class I took in college called "Sound Synthesis" taught by Alex Inglizian. Taking heavy inspiration from “Everywhere at the end of time” by The Caretaker, these tracks are a series of improvisations made with a software instrument I designed using the program Max. These are unedited, live recordings of me sampling and altering the source material in each track's title while adjusting sequencers, modulators, and droning synthesizers. I did a live performance for my class as well, but unfortunately it was not recorded.

From the album description of "Everywhere...": “When work began on this series it was difficult to predict how the music would unravel itself. Dementia is an emotive subject for many and always a subject I have treated with maximum respect. Stages have all been artistic reflections of specific symptoms which can be common with the progression and advancement of the different forms of Alzheimer’s.”

The original album does this incredibly well and I wanted to try and mimic its sound and texture as much as possible using nothing more than a source track and a program designed by me. The result is what you are hearing now!

If you would like to download the instrument and have fun with it yourself, please reach out to me! Bonus points if you can identify the original sample in the final track... I was having too much fun one night improvising with different songs and lost track of its metadata.

Much love,

Jack
