about

Finally... the revised, remixed, and now mastered version of "My Slow Pace" is here. Since originally releasing the early version last fall, I have used much of the knowledge acquired in my Master's program at Northwestern to polish this project as best as I can. Inevitably, arrangement changes have been made as well. Feel free to check out the earlier version to see what has changed (it's here on Bandcamp), but this is the official and final product. Maybe one day if I garner a hardcore fan base there will be arguments over which is better... a nice thought.

Thank you to Stephan Moore and Alexander Inglizian at Northwestern University for being amazing audio-production professors (and for pushing me to discover so much more on my own).

Thank you to Elizabeth Kate for singing on "You Better Cry." It was my first duet and I am so proud of how it turned out.

Thank you to my friends and family. You know who you are. I dedicate this album you all for supporting me on this musical journey. I only hope to keep making you proud.

Stay tuned for more music! I've got plenty on the way already. As always...

Much love,

Jack

Release details:

Wow. I made it! Let's just say that this album has been a long time coming. I started it in June of 2019 when it was a much smaller concept and with the goal of releasing it by the end of that summer. In retrospect, I am incredibly happy that I sat on it for so long. It expanded into a multi-genre project with far better production than what I could've produced last year. Songs were cut, songs were added, and songs were completely flipped. Originally this thing was 24 tracks long, but about a month ago I came to my senses; these songs - in this order - are what I set out to do all those months ago.

My primary inspiration for this album is The 1975's "Notes on a Conditional Form," which has polarized many listeners due to its length and breadth of genre. It is a large and grandiose statement that changes sound almost constantly. As an album, it shamelessly says exactly what it wants when it wants. When I heard it for the first time, I felt unbelievably inspired. I had been working on this album for a while at that point, but I was losing track of its focus. After so much time experimenting with musical genres, I was absolutely thrilled to finally hear an album so similar to what I had envisioned for own. (Since I've been a huge and shameless fan for a while, you'll also find a vocal snippet of Matty himself in here.)

Fittingly, these songs of mine come from all corners of my musical process. Also, many of them have vocals! I've released songs with vocals before, but not in a long time and never with all that much attention paid to the singing. Since then I've tended to shy away from those songs and have hidden my singing voice for quite some time. Well, fuck that. I have now taken it upon myself to add lyrics to many of the instrumental and ambient pieces I've created over the years (day one fans will probably notice the improved and more advanced production on the previously released tracks here) and make a true statement. Of course, there are also instrumental tracks here as well which strengthen the artistic message in their own way.

"My Slow Pace" is who I am as a musician. It is an exhaustive demonstration of the sounds by which I have come to define my musical identity. For that reason, it is easily my most personal release yet. Given that, thank you so very much for listening. I've kept so many of these songs to myself for a while now, and have shied away from completing many of them because of musical insecurities. In multiple ways, this is me sharing my voice. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for listening.
